Built on community connections, our practice recognizes that both art and construction are built in an environment, and surrounded by others. And both are at their best when those relationships are honored.
INTRODUCTION
Founder Jim Larson is three-time Artistic Director of the Nashua International Sculpture Symposium. As an artist and builder himself, he facilitates artists’ practice, helping them create art in their own voice, with local support, and for public display. The symposium is also a vital opportunity for artists to come together and share ways of working.
Working in partnership with architectural firms, we specialize in volumetric stone, architectural stonemasonry, and projects using whole blocks of material.
PORTLAND, ME. ARCHITECTURE
We have also worked in collaboration with the Martin Gottlieb Studio, pairing classical craftsmanship and innovative techniques to carry stone carving forward.
Maine Stone Structures operates out of The South Portland Art Works, an artists’ collaborative founded by Jim. The studio exists to empower artists, gather creative energy, and share the power of collaboration.
